With schools closing across the nation, parents and educators are stressing as they try to figure out how kids can learn and obtain their education from home. To make things a little easier, we have put together a list of resources that can be accessed online. We hope this will be helpful.
If you are panicking about what to do with your children over the next few weeks, here are some wise words from someone who has been homeschooling for 12 years:
"I want to let parents know that youth elementary age child only needs 1-2 hours of school per day (middle-school 2-3 hours/high school 3-4 hours). PLEASE don't expect them to spend 6-8 hours of school a day. That is not how homeschooling works. There are MANY resources availble to you, use them! Let them sleep in, it's good for their immune system. No need to get dressed. Talk to them about what they want to work on. Let them be part of the planning. Include 1 hour outside. Spend 1 hour reading. Chore time. Cook together. A LOT of math is done in the kitchen. This is a stressful time for all of us. Don't make it worse by stressing about school. Be gentle with your babies and yourself. If it gets frustrating, walk away."
